LNOB Platform meeting about Intersectionality and the SDG'sDatum: 20 mei 2021
The 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are committed to “Leave No One Behind” regardless of social identity. They are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all and address the global challenges we face.
The concept of intersectionality is at the heart of these goals. Intersectionality is a concept to address and critically challenge social situations, and is defined as the interconnected nature of gender, sexual orientation, race, age, educational background, physical abilities and countless other experiences and traits that make us unique. Simply put, intersectionality is the overlap of systems, experiences, or identities.
Intersectionality stresses that there is no one way for development to occur, because everyone needs something different depending on their intersectionality. This brings a challenge. Is it possible to leave no one behind, when everyone is different and has different needs?
This and other questions will be discussed during the LNOB session on Intersectionality and the SDGs on May 20th. The session will be facilitated by Nina Guillerme, intersectionality advisor and facilitator. There will be two key speakers: Jennifer Bushee from Wemos and Georgette Veerhuis from the SDG team of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Wemos and partners were selected by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to cooperate in a new strategic partnership on intersectionality and SRHR.
Join the upcoming #LNOB meeting on the 20th of May to get to know the new platform members and to take a deep dive into intersectionality and the SDGs.
