About Wetlands International

Wetlands International is a worldwide, non-profit organisation with 60 years of experience safeguarding and restoring wetlands to benefit people and nature. Our vision is a world where wetlands are treasured and nurtured for their beauty, the life they support and the resources they provide.

 

Our organisation is made up of a network of 20 offices around the world. To achieve our mission, we work with partners in government, NGOs and the private sector. We manage several multi-partner projects at global, regional and country level to conserve biodiversity, reconcile conflicts over water, reduce the risks and impacts of floods and droughts, meet future food needs and tackle climate change. We work at the local level to build knowledge and demonstrate innovative wetland solutions on the ground that mobilise civil society, governments & companies to act jointly in major programmes across whole landscapes. We use these results to campaign for improved policies, investments & practices that will make a difference for wetlands.

 

Purpose of the job

The Communications officer is based in our head office in Ede, the Netherlands. S/he connects our head office to our network offices and is the focal point for our global communications. This position helps inspire and develop our network offices while ensuring the implementation of our communications and branding strategies. Our communications and advocacy team play a key role in supporting the implementation of our global strategy, and this role coordinates their outreach across the network.

 

Profile of the candidate

The successful candidate has strong experience in website and social media management and content creation. S/he is an outgoing writer who knows how to create effective products and relate to different audiences using varied digital and print media. S/he is proactive, creative and optimistic, with interest in wetlands and sustainable development and a passion for making a difference in the world. S/he has a results-oriented approach and proposes ways to innovate and continuously improve our communications products, practices, channels and messaging.

 

Main responsibilities

  • Responsible for our online and printed communications products, activities and marketing, creation of visuals and infographics is particularly relevant;
  • Manage and improve the website and its navigation, including, design, helpdesk support and troubleshooting technical issues;
  • Develop social media strategy and coordinate social media channels while providing strategic advice to improve outreach to targeted audiences based on analytics;
  • Research, plan, write and edit online content and monthly global e-newsletter;
  • Work with website developers, designers, writers, editors, printers, photographers and filmmakers to develop communications products;
  • Implement our communications and branding strategies and house style across the network, ensure consistency and give support when needed;
  • Inspire and assist our network offices through training and skills development, and by sharing products such as infographics, videos, and others that are usable in different countries and regions;
  • Coordinate along with the team conferences and events: develop messaging, plans for promotion and social media, audio/visual support, filming and photography;
  • Develop and maintain a global photo database compiling images from across the network;
  • Help develop strategies for membership and donor engagement;
  • Supervise the work of an intern.

 

Essential skills and experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of work experience as a Communications Officer
  • Bachelors in Communications or related degree
  • Native level English speaker with excellent writing skills
  • Track record of managing websites and social media outreach, creating and editing content
  • Efficient, well-structured, and highly organised to balance frequent and often overlapping requests for support
  • Strong knowledge of WordPress architecture and programming
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience in cross-cultural communication and international environments
  • Technically savvy (knowledge of various content management systems, MailChimp, various social media platforms, SEO and Google Analytics)
  • Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign
  • Experience in the creation of campaigns

 

Desired skills and experience

  • Working proficiency in additional languages, especially French, Spanish, Dutch advantageous
  • Experience visualising information, including the creation of infographics
  • Experience with photography and video
  • Eligible to work in the Netherlands

 

Job offer

  • Reporting to: Head of Communications and Advocacy
  • Part-time: 32 hours per week (Fulltime is 36 hours)
  • Salary scale 6-7 of Wetlands International Euro 1.994 – 2.580 based on a fulltime contract
  • Contract duration: 1-year contract with intention of extension
  • Location: Head Office in Ede- Wageningen, The Netherlands
  • Start date: end of February – beginning of March 2018
