By using a social franchise model, Aflatoun transfers curricular content, monitoring, and evaluation tools, and training capacity to partner organizations, helping them enhance their existing expertise and create an efficient learning ecosystem. Aflatoun’s programs follow an active-learning, participant-centered methodology, which combines social and financial education (SFE) through engaging participants, educators, government institutions, and civil society organizations.
Purpose of the Volunteering Assignment
Aflatoun International will hold its 6th bi‑annual Global Social and Financial Skills Conference from 1-3 November 2023 in Utrecht, The Netherlands. The Global Social and Financial Skills Conference will bring together experts and practitioners from around the world to share knowledge and best practices to socially and economically empower children and young people. The conference will build on the 2022 Transforming Education Summit and the United Nations Secretary-General Vision Statement on Transforming Education, which articulates the importance of social-emotional, financial, and entrepreneurship skills as key elements of transformed education systems. Recognizing that these 21st-century skills are crucial to prepare children and youth for the challenges of a rapidly changing world.The conference will be a platform for sharing the latest research and innovations in social, financial and entrepreneurship education, and to promote collaboration and partnerships between organizations working in this field. The participants in the conference will travel from all over the world, to ensure their engagement and interactive participation in the conference, Aflatoun International is looking for volunteer interpreters from either 1 language French – Arabic – Spanish – Russian to English and vice versa.
Deliverables
The following outputs are expected:
- Provide simultaneous whisper interpretation for a small group of participants at the Jaarbeurs, Utrecht during the break-out sessions on :
Day 1 – Starting 3:00pm – 5:00pm on the 1st of November
Day 2 – starting 10:45AM – 5:30pm on the 2nd of November
Day 3 – Starting 9:15 am until 12:00 PM on the 3rd of November
Required Skills & Qualifications
- A Student or holder of a bachelor’s or academic degree in interpretation, linguistics, education, psychology or related field is a plus.
- Professional experience in interpretation is an advantage
- Excellent verbal communication skills as a team player.
- Fluent in spoken English and to be able to translate from English to at least 1 language (French – Arabic – Spanish – Russian (required).
- Ability to work flexibly with a large number of people in an international environment.
- Ability to act towards and solve unexpected situations.
- The candidates must be residents of the Netherlands

Hiring Details
The position is for a volunteer. We offer a dynamic and pleasant multicultural working environment. Due to the nature of Aflatoun’s work with children around the world, specific attention is drawn to Aflatoun’s Child Protection Policy and its Policy on the Protection of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA).
