Clean Clothes Campaign is looking for a
Outreach & Case Strategy Coordinator
4 days per week, based in Amsterdam or Brussels, starting as soon as possible.
Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) is dedicated to improving working conditions in the global garment and sportswear industry and supporting the empowerment of workers, most of whom are women. The CCC global network consists of more than 230 trade unions and NGO’s, both in consumer and production countries. As a network we are committed to a shared Global Strategic Framework and cooperate in global working groups, as well as through national and regional coalitions. You can find more information on our recent campaigns and advocacy work, as well as our vision, mission and principles, across our website.
CCC is committed to diversity and inclusion. We stand for an open culture, where everyone is supported to fulfil their full potential. Therefore, we strongly encourage people of diverse ethnicity, gender expression, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age or other marginalised backgrounds to apply for this vacancy.
Clean Clothes Campaign is looking for an experienced Outreach & Case Strategy Coordinator who, together with worker organisations and others in the CCC network, will campaign for garment workers’ rights worldwide. We aim to move brands to take meaningful action and concretely improve labour conditions in individual factories. We are looking for someone who has the strategic insight and hands-on capacities to, together with the workers, win their struggles for justice.
Tasks and responsibilities include:
• Collaborative strategy development of public campaigns to address workers’ rights violations in garment factories.
• Cooperation with organisations around the world in international case groups to develop winning strategies to engage garment brands on meeting workers’ demands.
• Researching and assessing key campaign moments and avenues, as well as devising and executing the practical steps (co-developing social media campaigns, in-person actions, and online petition strategies)
to mobilise audiences and move company targets.
• Content creation, including press releases, website texts, newsletters, and visuals and text for social media in support of our campaigns.
• Developing media strategies and engaging with journalists, including building long-term relationships and co-developing press policy and monitoring.
• Taking part in staff and network meetings, planning activities and general organisation-related tasks.
We are looking for:
• A strategic and experienced campaigner, able to assess both short and long-term public campaign needs for the cases at hand and to develop and execute actions to support these.
• Strategic insights into what constitutes crucial campaign opportunities to convince the target company and the research skills needed to further investigate those opportunities.
• Proven ability to make sense of demands and findings and turn them into strategic messaging and effective campaign pushes.
• An understanding of the intersection of online and offline organising, mobilisation, and direct action.
• An excellent communicator and writer with strong intercultural awareness and a native or near-native level of English.
• Experience securing mainstream media coverage for campaigns and engaging with journalists, and the ability to transform complex matters into clear messages.
• Willingness to work within a global network across time zones, including flat decision-making structures.
Additionally, we would welcome:
• Knowledge of the garment industry and labour rights issues.
• Familiarity with any of the main garment-producing countries, including language skills.
• Visual design and/or video editing skills.
• Experience with paid media and placement, segmentation, testing, and optimising of paid social campaigns.
• A pre-existing network of media contacts.
• Experience working in a global, non-hierarchical network.
• Experience presenting in front of a camera.
We offer:
• A dynamic job in a non-hierarchical organisation in which all staff earn the same salary, within an inspiring international network.
• A temporary contract of 1 year for 4 days (32 hours) a week. Upon satisfactory performance, a permanent contract will follow.
• The salary level for 2023 is set at € 4.040,- on the basis of 36 hours a week (full-time) plus 8% holiday allowance. For this position this means € 3.591,- gross per month for 32 hours (4 days), plus the holiday allowance.
Every year the salaries are adjusted for inflation. Please note that, due to our principle of equality, the salary is not negotiable.
• A fully paid for pension plan, € 36 net telephone allowance, general net allowance 1% of gross pay, contribution towards trade union membership, reimbursement of commuting costs (up to a fixed amount) and an individual training budget.
• 5 weeks holidays plus the days between Christmas and New Year.
• The salary level and benefits for Belgian residents will be equivalent to the above.
