CEO leadership sessions – Reorganising for the future

These are turbulent times in our sector. How do we navigate them and prepare for the future? To answer these questions, we’re organising three sessions for executive members under the motto ‘Reorganising for the Future’ as part of the CEO Leadership programme. The goal is to engage in dialogue about themes surrounding reorganisation, cooperation, repositioning, and innovation.

(Re)organising for the future, part 1

An expert by experience will give an introduction and, under the guidance of an expert, we will discuss all the changes our organisations are currently dealing with. The goal is to challenge each other, learn from each other and support each other. The key question is: how can we continue to make an impact?

You can choose from one of the sessions below in each round.

Session 1: Reassessing our role as civil society

Petra van Haren, director of Edukans, will speak about the non-financial consequences of global and Dutch developments (geopolitical relations) in international aid. These times call for a reassessment of our role as civil society. How do we position ourselves in the new geopolitical relationships? Petra would like to discuss this question with other Partos members. The session will be facilitated by Petra Hoogerwerf, strategy expert at S&L NL.

Session 2: Drastic innovation and tilting your business model

External developments force NGOs to think about their strategy. On the one hand, we are confronted with the need to make savings, and on the other hand, we must also consider how we can work differently in a structural way and become more (financially) autonomous. In this session, we will proceed at two speeds. We will focus on what we will have to do in the coming period. What does the new political and financial reality we are facing mean for the impact we want to make? We will look for quick insights and quick solutions to make the right financial shifts. We will also look at new business models and opportunities for collaboration. We will work with the case of the Belgian NGO Federation. The session will be facilitated by Stijn Demuynck (S&L Belgium), a specialist in developing new business models.

Session 3: Innovating together? Clear roles!

How do you divide responsibilities between the director and the board/supervisory board when innovating within development cooperation? In this interactive workshop, you will explore where the boundaries and opportunities lie based on two thought-provoking propositions. Experience both perspectives, discover the areas of tension and develop concrete tools for an effective division of roles in a period of great turbulence. Go home with clear agreements that promote innovation without getting in each other’s way. The session will be led by Nynke Runia (ITGD) and facilitated by Bér Engels, (S&L NL), strategy expert.

About this series

The idea is to learn from (experiential) experts on some themes and then exchange about all the changes your organisations are currently facing. Based on the request, we come up with the following sessions:

  • Collaboration new style.
  • Drastically innovating and tilting by completely redesigning your business model as an NGO.
  • Sources of funding.

The speakers will briefly introduce the topics based on their experiences/knowledge. Then, the groups will work on drawing up concrete actions for their organisations. The aim is also to identify opportunities for cooperation.
