Together Works!
“The motto ‘together works’ is also my professional motto, and I believe Partos plays an important role in professionalising the Dutch development sector. I am extremely motivated to get started in my new role. I know Partos as a passionate and professional organisation, committed to impactful development cooperation worldwide together with members.” – Liana Hoornweg
Development cooperation and international solidarity are badly needed
“In my previous work, at Fair Wear, ICCO, Edukans and Enabel, among others, I have seen that development cooperation and international solidarity are still badly needed. There are millions of people living in poverty. Social inequality is high, human rights are under pressure, and many fragile states and conflicts worldwide exist. Not everyone has clean water, access to healthcare, education and food security. Moreover, climate change hits hardest precisely those groups that are now often the least listened to: young people, women, people living in poverty, ethnic minorities, activists and civil society organisations. It is precisely they who must be involved in shaping and realising a just world. And solutions to current crises should be sought at all levels: among citizens, civil society, government, business and internationally. The role and approach of Partos, which supports members to work together for a peaceful, just and sustainable world for all, aligns beautifully with this.”
Liana succeeds Bart Romijn in March
After eight years of valuable commitment to Partos, Bart is retiring. For his farewell, he has written a personal booklet (in Dutch) with his experiences and reflections on cooperation in development. In March, Liana will take over from him as director at Partos. Bart will remain CEO until then and ensure a proper handover. In the coming years, Liana wants to work to connect and strengthen Partos members and partners on topical themes such as climate, inclusion and decolonisation. This will enable us as a sector to constructively tackle the hefty challenges we face. We also look at ourselves as being open to change. This is how we can best disseminate our knowledge on development and genuinely equal partnerships. In doing so, we want to maintain and strengthen support in the Netherlands to improve our results at all levels. Liana: “I look forward to working with members and partners on this and getting to know you.”
