About GPPAC

The Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC) is the world’s largest member-led network of local peacebuilding organisations, bringing together more than 350 civil society organisations across 14 regional networks working to prevent violent conflict and sustain peace. GPPAC members are active before, during, and after conflict. Embedded in their communities, they navigate complex and often fragile environments with contextual knowledge and long-standing, trusted relationships that extend from the community to the government level and across conflict divides. These connections, together with their legitimacy within their societies, position them to understand conflict risks, strengthen the conditions for peace, and contribute to more peaceful, resilient and secure societies.

What makes GPPAC’s network approach different is not only that its members are deeply rooted in their communities, but also that they are connected to one another. Organised through 14 regional networks, GPPAC enables peacebuilders to exchange knowledge, lessons and solidarity across contexts and regions, fostering collective action among locally led actors. Members draw on one another’s insights to adapt locally driven responses to emerging challenges, recognising that approaches must always be shaped by local realities. By bringing these perspectives into regional and global policy spaces, GPPAC strengthens both peacebuilding practice and policy in ways that remain grounded in local realities and leadership.

GPPAC’s network approach reflects its commitment to locally led peacebuilding. Members are not implementers of externally designed solutions, but leaders and agents of change whose knowledge, relationships and legitimacy are essential to building sustainable peace. Through mutual support and collective action, the network helps ensure that no peacebuilder stands alone and that connected local efforts can achieve greater impact.

The Global Secretariat of GPPAC supports the effective functioning and strategic direction of the network. It facilitates coordination across governance and operational bodies, connecting regional networks, working groups, and the wider membership to enable inclusive and effective decision-making. The Secretariat leads core functions including global advocacy, communications, fundraising, and monitoring, evaluation, and learning, thereby strengthening the network’s collective impact in conflict prevention and peacebuilding.
