VACANCY – MANAGER COMMUNICATIONS

Young Africa is looking for a communications manager in Amsterdam.

Do you want to be part of a successful non-profit scale-up and are you a specialist in the field of communication? Young Africa needs you!

Headquartered in Zimbabwe with a support office in Amsterdam, Young Africa International is an entrepreneurial NGO that trains young people in Africa for work and income. Through integrated vocational training, young people not only learn a trade, but are empowered with skills such as life skills, english, ICT and entrepreneurship. Young Africa works in a number of countries in Africa and has expansion in the pipeline. In addition to established training centres, Young Africa has numerous implementation partners and trains students through mobile training units in remote areas of Africa.

 

What will you do?

You are an easy writer. You translate the organisation’s passion and ambition into effective communications. You will strengthen the positioning of the Young Africa brand, making the most of online opportunities. You are digitally savvy and social media smart. You are not afraid to think out of the box and know what is going on in the field of online marketing and fundraising. You have a hands-on mentality and are good at thinking ahead and planning. You show strength in your stories about young people in Africa. You will create presentations, newsletters, social media posts, and specific communications to donors. You will work with the partnership manager in the Netherlands and the communications team in Zimbabwe.

 

Your tasks

  • Communication strategy implementation: you find inspiring ways to share Young Africa’s Federation impact through multimedia in infographics, visuals, videos and more. You lead implementation and collaborate with the team in Zimbabwe. Together you will increase the visibility of Young Africa
  • Online communication: you manage our website, analyse online traffic and optimize the customer journeys of our visitors
  • Support of fundraising: together with the fundraisers you develop creative (online) actions and digital fundraising campaigns, including online ads, crowdfunding and others that lead to online donations
  • Communication with donors: you develop and carry out creative ways to inform our supporters and to thank donors with e.g. newsletters, magazines, articles, podcasts, etc. You are, together with your Team Leader,  responsible for making sure that all communication is aligned with donor requirements and guidelines
  • Content creation: you are responsible for putting together visually appealing annual reports as well as other important organisational documents
  • Capacity support: where needed you strengthen the communication expertise and creativity of Young Africa colleagues in the various countries we implement in Office management: together with your colleagues in Amsterdam.

  • An employment contract, initially for 12 months, that may be renewed dependent on funding.
  • The full-time gross salary for 40 hours is € 3250 – € 3500, depending on your experience and skills.

 

Who are we looking for?

  • An energetic and enthusiastic tackler for 40 hours per week
  • A colleague with confidence who likes to work independently A degree in communication
  • An expert in digital skills, social media and graphic design
  • Excellent command of Dutch and good knowledge of English
  • At least 3 years of work experience in the field, experience in the non-profit sector is a plus
  • You are available for at least 12 months and hopefully for longer.
