What to expect?
This is an in-person workshop for Partos members who seek to push for more accountability towards Racial Equity and Justice within their own work, their organisations and the sector. The workshop is part of the Partos Learning Trajectory on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), a series of 4 modules focusing on building a more inclusive and equitable sector from within. The third module of this trajectory is entirely dedicated to Racial Justice, and co-facilitated by various experienced facilitators and partners such as Aminata Cairo Ph.D. and The Black Archives. In this session, we will:
In this session, we will:
-
- Dive deeper into the (somatic) meaning of Racial Justice: Come together in an intentional space to experience and share what anti-racism and Racial Justice work entails when we start listening to our own and each others (felt) experiences.
- Explore the value of holding space: Together with Aminata Cairo Ph.D., author of the book “Holding Space” you are invited to join a multi-disciplinary workshop that surpasses current approaches to ‘Diversity & Inclusion’. In this workshop we experiment with ‘holding space’ as a collective approach to facilitate for more equitable and racially just spaces.
- Engage and exchange: Gain insights and reflection to become an agent of change in your community and learn from stories of challenges and success of other participants.
- Learn and immerse: A tour at the exposition “Casa Di Cabral”, a collaboration between The Black Archives and HipHopHuis that elicits the story of the liberation movement of Cabo Verde and Guinnea-Bissau against Portuguese colonial oppression.
- Contribute to an agenda for Racial Justice: Give shape to a sectors’ approach to advance racial equity and justice.
- Food to nourish the soul: Lunch, Bites & drinks are included.
To build and carry a community, you need a strong foundation.
HipHopHuis x Melly x The Black Archives x Partos
We are grateful to ground our racial justice practice by collaborating with social movements and recognized institutions. Our event is hosted by HipHopHuis, recognized as an important centre that celebrates the diversity of culture and identity of young people in Rotterdam through Hip hop, art and community, and Kunstinstituut Melly, an art-house with a mission to present and discuss the work created by visual artists, with a larger aim to be more accepting, understanding, and actively inclusive of a multi-vocal society. The Black Archives is a unique historical archive for inspiring conversations, activities and literature from Black and other perspectives that are often overlooked elsewhere. The Black Archives plays an important role in documenting and voicing the history of black emancipation movements and ongoing efforts of anti-racist movements in the Netherlands.
Our commitment
As part of our Learning Trajectory on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, we recognise that racial equity is a crucial and inherent part of our work to dismantle all forms of discrimination and call for social justice within the world and our institutions. We have taken steps to integrate a Racial Equity lens into our Learning trajectory. We will continue pushing for more accountability for equity among our members and the sector by partnering with initiatives such as the Racial Equity Index.
Your commitment – join the affinity groups
From December onward Partos will start hosting affinity spaces to unpack and confront racial justice in our individual and organisational practices within the context of international cooperation, and offer spaces of reflection and collective care. These sessions will be guided by experienced racial justice facilitators and organised in affinity groups for white and non-white people to ensure safety and collective care. Due to limited availability the spaces are currently only available for Partos members and their partners. Send an email to gigi@partos.nl & aleida@partos.nl for more info.
