What to expect?
This is an in-person workshop for Partos members who seek to push for more accountability towards Racial Equity and Justice within their own work, their organisations and the sector. The workshop is part of the Partos Learning Trajectory on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), a series of 6 modules focusing on building a more inclusive and equitable sector from within. The fifth module of this trajectory is entirely dedicated to Racial Justice, and co-facilitated by Uma Mishra-Newbery, from our collaboration partner The Racial Equity Index.
In this session, we will:
- Dive deeper into the (somatic) meaning of Racial Justice: Come together in an intentional space to discuss and experience what Racial Justice work entails in relation to the INGO sector. How does racial equity fit in with other work streams focused on systemic oppression s.a. Shifting Power, Decolonisation, DEI.
- Engage and exchange: Gain insights and reflection to become an agent of change in your community and learn from stories of challenges and success of other participants.
- Learn and immerse: A tour at the exposition “No Healing without reparation: 150 years of abolishment of Slavery” of The Black Archives will provide a unique opportunity to learn about the historical struggles, achievements, and ongoing efforts for recognition and (financial) reparation among BIPOC communities in the (formerly) Dutch Colonies and the Netherlands.
- Contribute to an agenda for Racial Justice: Give shape to a sectors’ approach to advance racial equity and justice.
- Food to nourish the soul: Bites & drinks are included
About the Racial Equity Index
The Racial Equity Index aims to hold the global development sector accountable for all forms of systemic racism. It is one of the leading initiatives pushing for more transparency and action for anti-racism within the development sector. It is led by a team of dedicated humans who have lived through experiences of racial inequity in the sector.
About The Black Archives
The Black Archives is a unique historical archive for inspiring conversations, activities and literature from Black and other perspectives that are often overlooked elsewhere. The Black Archives documents the history of black emancipation movements and individuals in the Netherlands. Furthermore, through public events and expositions on display, the Black Archives play an important role in voicing the ongoing efforts of decolonial and anti-racist movements in the Netherlands.
Our commitment
As part of our Learning Trajectory on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, we recognise that racial equity is a crucial and inherent part of our work to dismantle all forms of discrimination and call for social justice within the world and our institutions. We have taken steps to integrate a Racial Equity lens into our Learning trajectory. We will continue pushing for more accountability for equity among our members and the sector by partnering with initiatives such as the Racial Equity Index.
The Partos Innovation Hub and Racial Equity Index are offering the opportunity for Partos members and their partners to take the Racial Equity Index organisational assessment with the guidance of the Racial Equity Index.
